The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has promised to deploy men of the Nigerian Army at Isi-uzo Local Government Area in order to rid the area and the entire state of insecurity and other criminal activities.
The Army boss who gave the assurance on Tuesday when he led other Army senior officers on a courtesy visit to the governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah, vowed to ensure maximum security of lives and property of Enugu residents with the support of the state government. The COAS was in Enugu to ascertain the level of security in the state as well as the entire Southeast.
While commending the governor for his support to the army formations especially the 82 Division, the COAS promised that the Army Headquarters would take steps to address the areas where the governor had pointed out some challenges in a bid to expand the frontier of peace and stability in the state.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja who identified security as the bedrock of economic growth in the Southeast, said the army will address the security challenges with the support of the state governments. Speaking, the state governor, Dr Peter Mbah requested that an Army Barracks be set up at Isi-uzo local government area and also the number of the operation bases be increased to enable the state to address the tension and fragility in that part of the state.
Dr Mbah who acknowledged the tireless efforts and commitment of the army chief and his men to the security of the state, said Enugu people now go about their business on Mondays. He assured that the state government would continue to provide necessary support to sustain and improve on the state of security in Enugu State.
Governor Mbah further expressed satisfaction with the officers and men of the 82 Division of the Nigerian army, and promised that the synergy between the state and the army would be sustained.
