The price of cement has changed in various markets in Enugu, according to Blueprint investigation. A market survey shows that some brands of cement which sold for between N5,000.00 and N5,500.00 in January now sells for as high as N13,000.00. While Dangote Cement sells for N10,500, 00, Supaset and Bua sell N12,000.00 and N13,000.00 respectively.
“The price of cement has changed. Dangote is now N10,500 while Supaset and Bua are selling for N12,000.00 and N13,000.00,” a cement dealer told Blueprint correspondent at Garriki market, Enugu. I don’t know the cause of the change in price but I think it has to do with the exchange of dollars,” another dealer said.
A builder, Ezeo said the cost of building material is depriving people from building houses.
“You can imagine that a bag of cement now sells beyond N10,000.00. Tell me how people are going to build. This is for cement alone not to talk of rods,” Ezeo said.
“I thank God that I was able to finish the toilet project I started in December, and I finished it early February. I thank God that I finished before the prices of cement changed,” Mrs. Sylvia Nweze, a landlady said.
