A former member, House of Representatives in Ebonyi State, Chief Linus Okorie, who has been standing trial for alleged threat to the life of Governor David Umahi has been discharged and freed from detention.

An Abakaliki High Court discharged Chief Okorie following the withdrawal of the suit instituted against him by Governor Umahi.

Chief Okorie, who is also the Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South zone was seized by the operatives of Ebubeagu Security Outfit and handed over to the Police about a month ago prompting a legal battle, which dragged from a Magistrate Court to the Federal High Court in Abakaliki.

Speaking to his supporters shortly after regaining freedom at the High Court, Chief Okorie commended the Governor and his legal team for allowing the matter to be resolved amicably. He urged them not to abuse anyone over the matter, emphasising that his trial was a lesson while his release was victory for democracy.
