The Ebonyi State Government said it has commenced production of Fertilizer, to boost agricultural activities in the state. The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr. Jude Okpor disclosed this on Thursday in Abakaliki while briefing journalists on the outcome of the weekly executive council meeting of the state government.
He said the commencement of fertilizer production by the Ebonyi State Fertilizer and Chemical Company was in accordance with the directive of the last Executive Council, during the previous meeting. He disclosed that the Council has approved the procurement and distribution of thirteen thousand bags of fertilizers to farmers across the state.
On the repair of 33 units of transformers for redeployment into the electricity network across the state, Okpor said that Exco has also resolved to direct to direct the state commissioner for Power and Energy to consult with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), with a view to arriving at a mutually beneficial agreement with the state government, before the next Exco meeting.
The commissioner further said the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, has also approved the construction and rehabilitation of eight roads in some parts of the state that have been in deplorable conditions.
He said the roads include; 41km road from Obubara Junction to Oferekpe 19km Obvudechi – Iziogo road, 31. 827km Oferekpe- Agbaja road, and 12.81km Ishieke Odomoke Ekebiligwe – Isophu – Nworie road.
Others are; 1.3km Ebonyi Agro Dealers Market road, Onuebonyi, the Ogboenyi road off Ndibe beach road, Afikpo, Itara-Dr.Akanu Ibiam-Oyoyo-Erei Road and Alo street to Unity Square road.
Okpor said all these roads will be constructed and rehabilitated with concrete pavements. He noted that the executive council also approved upward review of the monthly Subvention to Ebonyi State University, (EBSU) from N150million to N200million in retrospect.
“The Council also approved the release of the sum of N300million earlier promised by the immediate past administration to the University,” he stressed.
Okpor announced that a total sum of N700million will be released to Ebonyi State University as directed by the state executive council.
