Education: GO-UNI VC Gives Awards Scholarship To Three Teenagers

The Provost of the Institute of Ecumenical Education, Thinkers Corner, Enugu and Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke have offered scholarships to three youths. This is in fulfilment of the policy to promote talents and empower the youths with the requisite knowledge to function effectively in the society, NewsBits learnt.

The youngest among them, a JS3 student, Master David Onwusi, was awarded a scholarship by the Provost, Reverend Father Professor Anieke for being the best dancer during the Institute’s Day in the ongoing Unity Week of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu and the institute. The Provost of the Institute and Vice Chancellor of the University, Reverend Father Professor Anieke explained that the scholarship will cover the remaining part of Master David Onwusi’s secondary education.

In addition, the winner of the dancing competition received N100,000 while his runner-up, Miss Olaedo Unah, a two hundred level student of the Faculty of Law, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu got N100,000 from the Vice Chancellor in appreciation of their performance.

Master David Onwusi elder brother, a 100-level student of the institute of Ecumenical Education, Emmanuel Onwusi, also received a scholarship award from the Vice Chancellor to study in Godfrey Okoye University Enugu after his programme in the institute. David and Emmanuel had won N50,000 each in appreciation of their talents in an earlier dancing competition.

NewsBits learnt that the Provost also gave scholarship to another student of the institution, Jennifer Ifunanya Kanife to study in Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu after her studies in the institute.

The provost announced the outgoing President of the institute’s students Council of honour, Mr. Solomon Chiwetalu as the influential person in the institute and the outgoing student’s director of press club, Mr. Christopher Uboma as the most influential person among the students of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu.

On the beauty contest, Prof Anieke announced Mr. Samuel Uchenna and Precious Udeani as winners.

He explained that the unity week is part of the management’s efforts to harness the talents of the students and promote understanding and unity among the people. In a speech, the Dean Faculty of Education of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Professor Uche Agwaga noted with appreciation the Vice Chancellor ‘s commitment to the promotion of education in the country.

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of the University ‘s Teaching Hospital, Professor Cajetan Nwadinigwe described the activities of the students during the unity week as unique, stressing that they will promote understanding among the youths of the country.

Other activities of the day three of the students’ unity week include speech presentation, debate, fashion parade and dance competition. The one-week event will end on Sunday 18th June 2023 with a thanksgiving Holy Mass scheduled to take place the Omnium Sanctorum Chaplaincy Thinkers Corner Enugu.
