As they saying goes, whatever has a beginning must have an end. That is the case of former Anambra State Governor Mr Willie Obiano. Barely few hours of handling over the reins of government to Prof. Charles Chukwuemeka Soludo in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Obiano at the Lagos airport when he attempted to flee the country.
Reports have had it that Obiana remains one of the governors on the watch list of the anti-graft agency but because of the immunity clause that covers a serving governor in Nigeria, the EFCC could not execute arrest of the governor. But upon handing over to Soludo, the former banker became vulnerable.
Obiano was reportedly arrested around 8.30pm on Thursday. It was gathered that the former Governor was on his way to Houston, Texas in the United States, where he wanted to go and cool off before his arrest. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren confirmed the arrest.
