The candidate of the Labour Party for Enugu East Senatorial Zone election, Barrister Oyibo Chukwu has been reportedly attacked and killed by unknown assailants. Also, about eight persons were said to have been burnt when the campaign vehicle of the PDP Candidate for Enugu North/South Federal Constituency, Prince Ofor Chukwuegbo was attacked along the same road.
An aide to Prince Chukwuegbo confirmed the incident to NewsBits this morning. “Yes, it happened. Yes, it’s true,” he said on phone. Sources said the incident occurred within Amechi Awkunanaw area in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Wednesday.
A source who didn’t want to be named for security reasons, said Oyibo Chukwu and his driver were assassinated.
“Our Candidate is dead! He was killed inside his campaign vehicle; a Sienna bus,” the disclosed Wednesday night. We finished Campaign in parts of Nkanu West and he was heading home before the assailants attacked him and killed him.”
Also, about eight persons were said to have been burnt to death when unidentified persons reportedly set ablaze a campaign vehicle belonging to the PDP House of Rep candidate for Enugu North/South Hon Offor Chukwuegbo.
Details of the incident are not yet clear as at press time but a video clip in the social media shows pictures of burnt occupants of the Sienna bus belonging to the Reps candidate. The incident happened near the popular Eke Otu market in Amechi.
