Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Council has expressed shock for the fire outbreak that razed facilities worth millions of naira at Solid 100.9 FM, Enugu on Saturday.
Reacting to the devastating loss arising from the inferno, the state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Sam Udekwe, said the disaster was huge and could spell a lot of setbacks to the media, considering the positive contribution of the radio station to the growth of the industry.
While commiserating with staff and management of the organisation on behalf of the Union, Comrade Udekwe encouraged them not to yield to the effect of the disaster but take it as one of the natural disasters encountered while trying to make progress.
He charged the relevant authorities to be critical in the course of investigating the cause of the inferno, adding that they should be more focused on solution and forestalling its reoccurrence.
NewsBits recalls that the fire incident was said to have occurred between the hours of 8 am and 9 am on Saturday. Unfortunately, the studio was already destroyed before the arrival of the firefighters.
An eyewitness said the fire erupted from a nearby building where residents were burning bushes before it spread to the roof of the Solid FM studio. Solid FM, located at 10B, Savage Crescent GRA, Enugu, began transmission in 2012 and runs under the frequency of 100.9.
Meanwhile, Comrade Udekwe called on good spirited individuals and government to run to the aid of the organisation to return it to the sound state of operations.
