Police Operatives serving in the Central Police Station (CPS) of the Enugu Police Command on April 9, 2024, at about 7:30 p.m., rescued a female victim (names withheld) abducted by operators of “One Chance” vehicle.
The gallant operatives also arrested her alleged abductors, one Ejike Okorie “m”, aged 26, and Christopher Kindness “m”, aged 25, both of Ameke Ngwo, Enugu North LGA of Enugu State. This was made known in a statement issued in Enugu by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe.
Ndukwe explained that an angry mob had earlier intercepted the suspects before the police swift intervention, beat them up, and set ablaze their criminal operational minibus at the P-and-T bus stop, Okpara Avenue, within the Enugu metropolis after an alarm was raised over the victim’s abduction.
He said a preliminary investigation has shown that the suspects confessed to the crime. “They stated how they and others at large have been perpetrating the criminal acts of “one-chance” robbery, abduction, and fraudulently obtaining money and other belongings from unsuspecting victims within Enugu metropolis,” according to Ndukwe.
He said that the suspects would be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations were concluded. Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, has commended the Police Operatives for their quick intervention, thereby preventing the angry mob from murdering the suspects in the name of jungle justice, Ndukwe explained.
Uzuegbu, however, urged citizens to always adhere to the laws by arresting and handing criminal suspects over to the Police, for necessary investigation and prosecution, instead of resorting to self-help in the form of the criminal act of jungle justice.
