ESCET Staff Jubilate As Governor Peter Mbah Finally Clears 8-Month Salary Arrears

The Chairman, Senior Staff Union of the Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Enugu State College of Education Technical,  ESCET Chapter, Comrade Chinwe Ani, has expressed gratitude to the state Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for paying the balance of four months’ salary arrears owed the workers of the college by the previous administration.

According to her, “this gesture has brought immense relief and restored morale. We appreciate the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of ESCET workers and his understanding of the challenges and hardship this had made the workers go through. I am very optimistic that this act of benevolence will motivate all the staff, both teaching and non- teaching and renew their zeal to become ever committed to their duties.”

Comrade Ani, who spoke on behalf of SSUCOEN members in the college, said: “It is necessary to recall that ESCET was owed Eight months’ salary arrears by the previous administration and his Excellency had graciously approved the payment of the arrears. He promised that the arrears would be paid in two tranches. The first tranche (4 months) was paid in July this year 2024 while. the second tranche was expected in November.

“Our ‘Talk and Do’ Governor has kept his word. His landmark achievements in all the sectors in the State is also very visible for all to see.

“Part of his milestones in education is the establishment of Smart Green School in each of the 260 wards across the State and facilitation of the construction of Center for Experiential Learning and innovation Center at ESCET for the training of Smart School teachers. We are indeed very lucky and proud to have Governor Mbah in Enugu State. He is indeed a blessing to both the current and future generation.”.

The SSUCOEN Chairman sent words of appreciation to the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, to the labour-friendly Provost, Dr. Stella Ekwueme, and her Management Team for the role they played in ensuring the release and payment of the arrears “, especially at this difficult but festive season.”

“As we continue to pray for God’s guidance and protection upon our Governor and his family, we also ask God to endow him with more strength and wisdom to continue with the good work which he is seriously doing to position Enugu as the preferred destination for living, tourism and investment,” Mrs. Ani concluded.
