The need for adequate hostels at the Ugwuomu campus of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu State, will soon be a thing of the past. This is as the university and an Indigenous company, NAYOPET have signed a memorandum of understanding for the building of four blocks of 5,000 rooms at the main campus of the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, who signed for the institution, explained that the hostels are expected to accommodate 10,000 students and guarantee accommodation for students of the university. The Vice Chancellor said that 50 hectares have been approved for the project. He announced that the ground-breaking for the project will be performed on the 13th of July 2023.
Professor Anieke said that the project is expected to be completed within 12 months.
“In the next one year, we will have enough accommodation for students and those that come to the business park for training. It will influence the psychic of young people on the good things they have received in the university, “the Vice Chancellor remarked.
The building will be done and managed for some time, but the university will not refund. Responding, the representative of the company, Engineer Emmanuel Monye, thanked the management of GO-UNI for giving them the opportunity to contribute to the development of the university.
Engineer Monye said each of the four blocks will have 1,250 rooms while each room will accommodate two students. He hinted that the rooms would be equipped with the necessary facilities that would make the students comfortable while on campus and gave the assurance that the project would be completed within the stipulated period of 12 months. Professor Anieke and the Registrar, Dr. Nnamdi N.S Ene signed for the university while Engineer Monye initialled for the company.
