An Aide to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Inter-Party Affairs, Mr Matthias Madus, is currently battling to save his life, needs over N500, 000 to perform surgery.
The aide was said to have been diagnosed of twisted intestine that had kept him in very critical condition or could result to death if help did not come his way early enough. Matthias’ wife, Mrs Promise Madus disclosed this while speaking to newsmen on Monday in Enugu.
But a governor’s aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to journalists, said, “Much as I can’t confirm whether the man is still under the employment of the state government, has the family made their case known through the right channel? Has the wife followed due process in reporting the husband’s illness? Someone may have a good case, but the method of presentation could spoil the case, you know,” he said.
Mrs. Madus said they were admitted at St. Gabriel Hospital, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu where scan showed her husband had a twisted intestine as a result of ruptured appendicitis. She said because the family could not afford cost of the operation, the doctor discharged them, saying he “does not want any patient to die in his hospital.”
According to her, they could not leave the hospital because the doctor is demanding they pay N590,000 the cost of treating him in the hospital since his admission. According to her, “We have been calling his excellency, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi but he is yet to respond to our calls and messages.
“I want Gov. Ugwuanyi and other Nigerians to come to our aid as my husband is in a very critical condition. The doctor said delaying in performing the operation could lead to another thing and I don’t know what to do as we have used the little money, we have in buying him drugs.”
She added that apart from N500,000, the family would need more money to buy drugs to be used in theatre. She said: “I sell Soya Milk which I use to feed our five kids since my husband became suck last Friday.”
