The Enugu State government has said that it was committed to ensuring that people have access to electricity services in the state, stressing that the “government is currently studying underserved and unserved communities and will soon constitute the management of the newly established Enugu State Electrification Agency.”
The state governor Dr Peter Mbah gave this indication on Thursday in Enugu during a Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting organised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
NewsBits reports that the governor further stated that Enugu State was poised to catalyze the economic growth of the South East. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Chidiebere Onyia , Governor Mbah said the state was determined to ensure that the module in energy intervention as relates to electricity was replicated across the zone.
He insisted that his administration must ensure that customers were not charged for the power they did not use. While commending NERC for organising the event, the governor charged the regulatory body to endeavour to resolve most of the challenges faced by customers as complained by them.
He emphasized the importance of electricity in growing the state economy from 4.4 to 30 billion dollars as projected by his administration before 2031. Dr Mbah said the government has started engaging with developers and investors who are interested in setting up power generation plants under the will buyer/will seller commercial agreement.
He identified electricity as a product, hence should have cost implications, but reiterated that the state government would not condone any act of overcharge or extortion, even as he urged the body not to derail from the steady and quality power supply according to the band classifications.
