Governor Nwifuru Commends Ebonyi Journalist On Development Journalism

Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru has lauded the efforts of one of the journalists based in the state, Comrade Felix Uka, in shaping society through his profession.

Nwifuru made the commendation while unveiling “The Splendor of Hard Work,” a book written by the veteran journalist, Felix Ikechi Uka, a correspondent of Independent Newspapers, at Dr Sam Egwu Press Centre Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Professor Grace Umezurike, thanked the journalist for being dedicated to his work, especially as the book chronicles the stories of resilience and leadership, to shape society.

Governor Nwifuru observed that the works of the author have a lasting impression on leaders, academics, media practitioners, stakeholders in Ebonyi State and beyond, adding that the book is inspiring and educational.

He said, “it is impressive to know that Felix Uka has written up to four books. From the highlights of these works, it is clear he is a unique journalist who does not take the events around him for granted. His dedication to chronicling his environment is commendable and essential. The book delves into the principles of hard work, determination, and consistency.”

Earlier, the book reviewer, Dr. Eugene Otu Chukwu, described the book, as a masterpiece. He also noted that the work is a call to action, and called on participants at the event to embrace hard work, adding that hard work is a pathway to greatness.

Dr. Otu Chukwu outlined the key themes in the book to include the role of willpower, divine favor, and consistency in achieving success. He extolled the efforts of the author in exploring historical and contemporary examples, linking them to Governor Nwifuru’s life story.

Otu noted that the book also Chronicles the transformative initiatives of Governor Nwifuru’s administration, including staff welfare programs, scholarships, and rural empowerment initiatives, which he said, reflected the Governor’s commitment to improving lives, as embedded in the Charter of People’s Needs of the governor.

The reviewer further observed that the book delves into Governor Nwifuru’s biography, Splendor of Hard Work, which provides an in-depth analysis of previous Ebonyi State administrations, from Senator Sam Egwu’s focus on education to Senator David Umahi’s infrastructural achievements.

According to him, “Uka’s thoughtful narratives in the book showcase how each leader contributed uniquely to the state’s development. The Governor’s wife, Mrs. Mary Maudline Nwifuru, also received attention in the book for her initiatives through the Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation, BERWO, which has significantly impacted rural communities.”

Otu, therefore, recommended that Splendor of Hard Work be adopted as a learning resource in educational institutions, noting that its potentials in shaping the minds and fostering excellence is enormous.

“The Splendor of Hard Work is more than a biography; it is a beacon of hope and a clarion call for greatness through purposeful living,” he continued and recalled that the book highlighted Governor Nwifuru’s inspiring journey from humble beginnings to political leadership.

Dr. Otu Chukwu further described the life story of Governor Francis Nwifuru, as chronicled by the book, is a great source of inspiration, especially for the youth, adding that Governor’s Nwifuru’s unwavering honesty, resilience, and work ethics make his story a compelling model for future leaders.

“Governor Nwifuru’s rise from a bricklayer to his current position as Governor of Ebonyi State encapsulates the book’s theme of diligence and self-belief. “This book is a must-have for every family. It is not only an account of Governor Nwifuru’s life but also a guide for young people navigating life’s challenges with determination,” he insisted.

He commended journalists in Ebonyi State for their roles in supporting the author and promoting responsible journalism, particularly in the state, contending that balanced journalism anchored on constructive criticism, is essential for societal growth.

Sharing his motivations, the author of the book, Chief Felix Ikechi Uka revealed that Splendor of Hard Work was born out of the quest to understand the driving forces behind success. According to him, “this book is not just about politics or governance, it is about the values that define success, diligence, discipline, and integrity.”
