Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has congratulated comrade Samson Nwafor on his emergence as the new Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, Nwifuru urged Nwafor to be magnanimous in victory. He described his election as a true reflection of choice of members of the state NUJ, and called on media practitioners in the state to partner with his administration to provide quality leadership to the people of the state.
Governor Nwifuru described Nwafor’s victory in the bye election as a true reflection of the choice of his members and implicit confidence they reposed in him.
“As you assume office, I charge you to galvanize your members to live up to expectations of providing information, enlightenment and holding public officers accountable as watch dogs of the society.”
“You must also use your new position to promote development journalism and discourage sensationalism and fake news”.
While commending the members of NUJ for a peaceful election, Governor Nwifuru stressed the need for journalists in the state to partner his administration in the task of providing quality leadership to the people.
“He assured the new NUJ boss that his administration will offer maximum support to enable him deliver on his mandate.”
NewsBits recalls that Nwafor emerged victorious in a bye election held on Tuesday, to fill a vacuum left by the appointment of the former chairman of the Council, Comrade Tony Nwizi, as Senior Special Adviser to Governor Nwifuru on ICT.
