Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have shot dead a student on internship attached to the Dental Therapy Department of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.
The deceased, Kelvin Onuchie, a native of Agbor in Delta State, was shot dead in front of the entrance gate of his residence at Mberi Street, Abakaliki, at night, early this week.
NewsBits gathered that late Onuchie was outside the gate taking a call at about 8 p.m, when the men of the underworld shot at him, while his lifeless body was left in a pool of his own blood.
A source close to the scene of the incident told our correspondent that the gunmen, were suspected to have completed a robbery operation in the neighbourhood but sighted Onuchie on their escape route, and threatened by his calls, fired at him believing he was alerting security operatives.
Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer in Ebon SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, has in a reaction said she was yet to receive a report on that. She said the police would only know about such an incident if there was an official report to them.
