A prominent human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, to ensure that the newly established “Agunechemba” security outfit is not used for political intimidation or harassment.
In a statement issued on Monday in Awka, Ejiofor emphasized the need to preserve the outfit’s core mandate of safeguarding the security and welfare of Ndi Anambra. He warned against allowing political actors to exploit the security body for oppressive purposes, particularly with the November 2025 gubernatorial election approaching.
“I have carefully reviewed the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, which establishes the ‘Agunechemba’ security outfit,” Ejiofor stated. “My reflections align with the Igbo adage, ‘Osita di mma odibara gboo,’ meaning it is still early to lay a solid foundation for achieving better outcomes. This underscores the need to ensure the outfit’s success through neutrality and professionalism.”
Ejiofor further stressed that the state’s security challenges require collective effort and urged all stakeholders to work together to restore Anambra’s reputation as a secure and peaceful state.
He appealed to the governor and his administration to uphold the principles of fairness and non-partisanship in managing the security outfit.
“The Agunechemba security outfit must remain free from political interference,” he continued. “It should not fall into the hands of political predators or be used as a tool for oppression, intimidation, or harassment. Instead, its primary goal should remain the protection and welfare of the people.”
Ejiofor concluded by calling on Ndi Anambra to join hands in rebuilding the state’s security architecture and ensuring a safer and more prosperous homeland. “Security is a shared responsibility,” he said. “Together, we can restore Anambra’s lost glory.”
