The United Igbo Communities (UIC) in Rivers and Bayelsa States have congratulated Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara, following the Supreme Court confirmation of his victory in the February 2023 governorship election in the state.
The group in a statement signed by its President-General High Chief Julius Uchenna Uzoma, described the victory as an act of God, saying that it is a call to duty to release the Rivers people from the shackles of darkness.
The statement read: “The entire members and executive of United Igbo Communities (UIC) Rivers and Bayelsa Statesi heartily congratulate the Executive Governor of Rivers State Amaopu Senibo Sir. Joseph Siminialayi Fubara, DSSRS on your resounding victory at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
“We see this victory as an act of God, and we believe it is for the commoner and downtrodden in Rivers State and a call for duty to release Rivers State from shackles of darkness.
“Sir, the supreme court verdict is the testament that you are called by the Almighty God to reposition Rivers State and touch the lives of the commoners who have been neglected and left in abject penury. We charge you to continue to be God-fearing and not to lose focus on consolidation of the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State”.
The group prayed that the Almighty God who had made it possible for his emergence as Governor of Rivers State to sustain and give him the courage to face challenges of governing the state. “We pray that the good Lord who has positioned you, will be your strength and shall continue to protect and guide you as you steer the ship of Rivers State to an enviable position in Nigeria.”
