Imo State Governor and chairman, South East Governors’ Forum has on behalf of the Governors of the South East zone, condemned the gruesome murder of soldiers by gunmen. Uzodimma bemoaned the fact that soldiers who were on their duty post, without any provocation, were attacked by men of the underworld.
“I want to condemn that action in the strongest terms and also urge to go all out and ensure that those who are behind that action are caught and be brought to book”, he said. He regretted that the incident would constitute a setback to the peace process which Governors of the South East region have been pursuing, interfacing with the federal government, security agencies and stakeholders on how best to resolve the issue of insecurity in the South East.
He said the dastardly action will again portray the South East in bad light, as people who don’t have regard for human lives. Governor Uzodinmma, however, Forum of Nigeria consoled the Chief of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army, and the families of those who lost their lives.
Uzodimma promised that the governors and other leaders and stakeholders of the zone will leave no stone unturned to make sure people of the South East enjoy peace they need to be able to develop. He advised the people of Imo State to always go about their normal businesses without obeying any sit-at-home order by non state actors, as the government and security agents are fully on ground to guarantee security to Imo people.
He noted that peace has returned in Imo State and men of the underworld would not be allowed to have their way in the state.
