There seems to be tension in Imo State due to an invitation extended to Imo Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP), Chairman, Engr Charles Ugwu, by the Imo State Police Command to provide former Governor, Hon Emeka Ihedioha,  his Deputy, Hon Gerald Irona,  and House of Representatives member-elect, Ikenga Ugochiyere, on Thursday.

A letter of invitation signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of administration in the state, Ukachi Opara, and addressed to Ugwu, on Wednesday, requested him to appear with the three opposition party leaders on Thursday at the State Criminal Bureau of the police command.

The request letter dated March 13, 2023, addressed to the PDP chairman and bearing the subject “Re: a case of murder, kidnapping, and arson” on Wednesday, reads, “The office of State Intelligence Bureau, Imo State Police Command, state headquarters Owerri, is investigating the above-underlined matter involving several notable members of Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State chapter.”

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo state command requests you come along with the following persons, Emeka Ihedioha, Ugochinyere Ikenga Imo, Gerald Irona, to interview the commissioner of police, through the officer in charge of State Intelligence Bureau, Owerri date Thursday, 16th March 2023, time 10:00 prompt.”

When contacted, Collins Opurozor, the State Publicity Secretary of Imo PDP, confirmed the letter, saying he had only seen it on social media. He, however, asked that our correspondent gives him some time to react to it.
