The indigenous Tiv people of Nasarawa state have cried out to the state and the federal government over the incessant killing of their kinsmen by suspected herdsmen in the state.
They also alleged that the constant attacks were in collaboration with some traditional rulers in the state. The Tiv communities spoke through the president of the Tiv Youths Organisation in the state, Barr Barnabas Zayol, in a world press conference held in Lafia on Thursday.
Zayol alleged that traditional rulers who were supposed to be peace builders were joining suspected herdsmen to unleash mayhem on the indigent Tiv people of the state.
Zayol said, “The Tiv people in Doma LGA particularly Doma South are at the mercy of traditional rulers who are operating with the Fulani herdsmen and their kinsmen to dispose us of our farmlands and some homes.
“We are here to let the whole world know that the Tiv people in Nasarawa State are not happy because of the perennial onslaught, pogrom, arson, maiming, displacement and occupation of our ancestral farmlands and homes by the Fulani herdsmen who boldly informed us of their readiness to deal with us amidst the threats of some traditional rulers who ceded our ancestral farmlands to them.
“This has been the cause of the constant killings of our people by the Fulani herdsmen whom our ancestral farmlands and some homes have been given to them by some of these traditional rulers and their allies, abusing us that we are settlers and non-indigenous people of the state.
“We are calling on the state and federal government to as a matter of urgency, come to our aid before they annihilate us.”
