Hundreds of thousands of commuters were stranded while motorists in some parts of Lagos State groaned in pain on Monday as fuel scarcity resurfaced in the state. It was gathered that filling stations that opened for sale within the commercial hub were characterised with long queues of vehicles.
Similarly, residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have been for months now grappling with acute fuel scarcity as most filling stations within the city have refused to dispense fuel to motorists. Those that open for business are also characterised with long and unbearable long queues. There are days when people spend a whole day on the queue trying to buy fuel for their cars and generating sets as electricity distribution has also practically failed.
It was learnt that many filling stations in Lagos State were out of fuel. The scarcity, which started a few days ago, got worse between Sunday and Monday morning, forcing motorists to spend hours at filling stations while many passengers were stranded.
The cause of the fuel scarcity could not be ascertained as of press time, but it was learnt that it was due to supply disruption to independent marketers in Lagos State. The Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) is yet to explain the cause of the scarcity, which was earlier witnessed in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
