NUJ: Enugu Stakeholders Laud Isiguzo’s Successful Tenure, As Yahaya Comes In

Some stakeholders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council have expressed delight for the manner the immediate past National President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo completed his two tenures without hitches and needless controversies.

The stakeholders also lauded Isiguzo for conducting a free and transparent election which ushered in the current President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, who they congratulated for his victory.

In a goodwill message which was dully signed by 10 of the stakeholders, they recalled that Isiguzo was a correspondent of ThisDay Newspaper in Enugu State before he won the election as national President of NUJ where he served the union meritoriously in two unbroken tenures.

“We, the stakeholders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Council, on behalf of our great and highly motivated members, extend our warmest congratulations to one of us and the immediate past National President of our great union, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, on his meritorious service to the union for two unbroken but successful tenures of six years,” the stakeholders emphasised in the statement.

The statement was signed by the stakeholders who represent various correspondents chapels in Enugu, including Comrade Amaka Agbo…. National Vice President Zone C NAWOJ; Comrade Lawrence Njoku… Chairman Correspondents’ Chapel; Comrade Obinna Ogbuka.. Chairman FRCN Enugu Chapel; Comrade Ebele Somaogbu…. “We, the journalists in Enugu State, are very proud to associate with you because you have made us proud with your performance and elevation of journalism as a respectable profession in Nigeria,” said the journalists, who added: “You ended your tenure quite strongly without any negative report. Your ebullient but exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to the growth and development of our great union and journalism profession have been truly inspiring.”

They also commended him for conducting at Owerri, Imo State Capital, a smooth election which ushered into office the current President, Comrade Yahaya, insisting that the outcome of the election was a “vote of confidence on your leadership”.

“We also commend you for conducting a free and fair election at the 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State, which ensured a seamless and smooth transition of power to your successor, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi. Your selflessness and loyalty to our union are qualities that we admire and appreciate.”

“We have been rating you very highly for your exemplary leadership even when you served the union as the National Vice President Zone C(South East), but the just concluded delegates conference served as a litmus test for the positive  legacies you left behind for the union. The outcome of that Owerri election was a huge vote of confidence on your leadership and we are glad to share in that,” they said.

The stakeholders also congratulated Yahaya and wished him a progressive and successful tenure as he pilots the affairs of the union. “To our new National President, Comrade Yahaya, we offer our hearty congratulations on your assumption of office and wish you a successful tenure. 

“As we in the Enugu State Council prepare for our own election and smooth transition of power in February 2025, we look forward to working with you to advance the interests of our Union,” said the Journalists, who quickly added: “Please, accept our best wishes for continued success and happiness.
