The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), on Friday, swore in 2, 095 corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 set deployed to Enugu State for the one-year mandatory national service. The state Coordinator, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, gave the number during the ceremony at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Awolola said that the corps members comprised 829 males and 1,266 females. Congratulating the corps members, she urged them to participate in all the activities in the orientation camp as indiscipline would not be tolerated.
“Your assessment of your service year starts right from the camp; you must obey the rules and respect camp officials as indiscipline would not be tolerated. The NYSC Orientation programme is designed to instil the core values of national service and adequately prepare you for significant responsibility you will face in the coming month,” she said.
She applauded Gov. Peter Mbah for revamping the NYSC camp clinic and additional sinking of borehole to enhance the camp environment. Meanwhile, Gov. Peter Mbah urged the corps members to contribute significantly to national development through various initiatives, including elections, anti-corruption campaigns, health initiatives and environmental conservation efforts.
Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said that the state government was committed in providing conducive environment for the corps members.
“In Enugu State, we are committed to supporting the NYSC and contributing to the sustenance of its gains. We have commenced the renovating of the orientation Camp and providing critical infrastructure to ensure a conducive environment for your training,” he said.
Administering the oath of allegiance, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, urged the corps members to adhere to rules and instructions and stay out of any kind of criminal activity. Ozoemena, represented by Justice A C Ogbuabor, urged them to avoid anything that would extend their one-year programme.
The Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Mr Uchenna Okolo, assured the corps members of adequate security in the camp. “All the security agents in Awgu are on alert at all times; and the governor had put a proper check in terms of security in the state,” he said.
