A 70-year-old man, Usman Ibrahim, has been arrested by the police for defiling two kids during the holy month of Ramadan in Adamawa State. The sisters (names withheld) are four and seven years old respectively.
The incident reportedly happened on April 4, 2023, in the Ajiya neighborhood in Yola, the state capital, according to a police report. The police report further detailed that the septuagenarian allegedly lured the two survivors into his room while on their way to take extra lesson classes and had carnal knowledge of them.
Confirming Ibrahim’s arrest, spokesperson of the police in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje said, “the incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Jimeta by the father of the victims having observed unusual pains from the kids while urinating.
“Preliminary investigation so far reveals that the suspect is a father of three and now leaving alone after he separated from his wife 10 years ago. The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola who expressed worry over the unfortunate incident, directed the officer in charge of Family Support Unit of the State CID to take over investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.
“The police boss equally advised members of the public, particularly parents to be very watchful of their kids against criminal minded element who are roaming about seeking whom to take advantage of and report person(s) of suspicious characters to the Police.
“He equally calls on the General public especially parents to key into the Command’s fight against all forms of gender-based violence and promised to prosecute perpetrators in accordance with the extant laws.”
