Police Arrest Three Suspected Vandals, Recover Firearm, Ammunition

 The operatives of Enugu State Police Command serving in Awkunanaw Police Division of the Command, said they have arrested three suspected vandals of public utilities.

A statement issued by the state police spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed that the suspects were arrested on May 30, 2024, around 7.30 p.m. According to Ndukwe those apprehended included three male suspects – Odeh Chijioke aged 26;  Okwudili Onwe, aged 38, both of Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, and Igwe Chidera aged 20, of Nkerefi in Nkanu East L.G.A ,Enugu State.

 Their arrest led to the recovery of yet-to-be quantified pieces of iron rails vandalized at the pedestrian crossing bridge at Holy Ghost/Ogbete Market, Enugu, according to Ndukwe. The spokesman further said that police operatives also serving in Awkunanaw Division of the Command, on May 29, 2024, around 10 p.m., swiftly responded to a distress call alleging the operation of armed robbers in a compound at Awkunanaw, Enugu.

He said that the quick response led to the averting of the criminal act and the recovery of a locally fabricated double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges, which the suspects abandoned and escaped upon sighting the operatives. According to Ndukwe, the arrested suspects will be arraigned and prosecuted once the investigation is concluded, while a discreet investigation is underway to apprehend the armed robbery suspects who escaped.

He said the Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, has appreciated the citizens whose information on the criminal activities made the operational successes possible.
