Repositioning Ebonyi PDP: Oruruo-Led Caretaker Committee Visits Security Heads

In a bid to foster dialogue and strengthen relations amidst its effort to reposition the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi State, the Caretaker Committee of the party on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2024, paid a courtesy visits to key security heads in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Led by the caretaker Chairman, Barr. Steve Oruruo, a delegation of PDP officials visited the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and State Security Service (SSS) respectively. The delegation was warmly received by the Commandant of NSCDC, Dr. Willie Etim and Director of SSS, G. Oluda.

Briefing newsmen after the visits, Barr. Oruruo underscored the party’s commitment to supporting security initiatives that prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens. He highlighted the need for proactive measures and collaborative strategies to address evolving threats and maintain stability, stressing that “the volatility of the Nigeria political landscape has made this visit pertinent.”

“Our visits today are to foster dialogue and mutual understanding between the leadership of Ebonyi PDP and security agencies. It also reflects our commitment to working closely with security agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens,” he stated.

“The visits are in line with the mandate given to us by the National Working Committee of our great party to restore peace in Ebonyi PDP. We understand that to achieve this, we must partner with critical security agencies and that’s what we’ve started doing today.

“We want to create an environment of peace because the new caretaker committee came with a calculated attempt to reorganize the party and rekindle the party and create a plurality of opinion.

“We reckon with these agencies as a veritable partner in the maintenance of law and order and we’re here today to appeal to them to always partner with our party and send their operatives to cover our activities. They’re not going to war but their presence in every event gives that sense of security and sends a signal that violence isn’t welcomed here.”

Barr. Oruruo also expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the visits, saying that he’s “pleased with the atmosphere they provided and the tonic they gave the party today and with their pledge to support the party all the way in terms of provision of security and every other necessary assistance to ensure that the right result is found in Ebonyi.“
