The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide has again called for an end to the killing of indigenes of Eha-Amufu in Enugu State by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen. Eha-Amufu has become a theatre of war, with several lives and properties lost, the OYC said.
NewsBits recalls that just yesterday, (Tuesday) Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State summoned another emergency meeting of all the stakeholders from Eha-Amufu where far reaching decisions were taken.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he hailed Governor Ugwuanyi for all his efforts in search of solutions for an end to the carnage in Eha-Amufu.
The group, however, alleged that security agencies were not doing enough to save the situation in the area despite the support from the State Government.
Okwu, who said he had been keenly observing the ugly incidents in the area, noted that despite the complex nature of the problems “the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has done so much to restore peace and tranquility in Eha-Amufu.
“Quite frankly, this is not a time to play politics. We are aware of the several interventions by the Governor ever since this unfortunate incident started. These efforts are satisfactory, and we wish to thank the Governor for standing by the people,” he stated.
The Ohanaeze youth president, however, urged the Federal Government to call the rampaging Fulani herdsmen to order. “Within the last few weeks, over 100 persons have been slaughtered in Eha-Amufu and this cuts across all ages.
“We are unhappy as no word has come from the Federal Government as a form of sympathy to those affected. This lends credence to the belief in some quarters that the killers have the backing of the government.
“A time has come for the President Muhammadu Buhari government to convince the entire world that it was not giving tacit support to the killers. They must be stopped from wreaking further havoc forthwith.
“We find it hard to comprehend why the killer herdsmen will want to push our people out of their ancestral land. It is even more curious that they launch these attacks from Benue State and return unchallenged. This has to end; the security agencies must show the world that they are not part of what is happening.
“For the umpteenth time, we call on the Federal Government-controlled security agencies to disarm the AK-47 wielding Fulani herdsmen who are slaughtering our people,” he declared.
