Six Police Officers Returning From Edo Election Duty Perish In Auto Crash

Six police personnel were killed, while 10 others sustained injuries in a ghastly motor accident along the Zaria-Kano Road on Tuesday.

It was learnt that the accident happened at Karfi village in the Kura Local Government Area of Kano in the early hours of Tuesday. The victims according to a report by FIJ includes three inspectors, one sergeant and two corporals.

The vehicle in which the police officers were travelling was said to had a head-on collision with a trailer in the village. The report further stated that the bus conveying the officers was marked registration number NO. 14B 101, while the trailer was marked registration number DAL 272 ZY.

Inspector Usman Salihu, Sergeant Umar Muhammad, and Corporal Kamalu Shehu all died on the spot due to the impact of the accident, but Sergeant Saidu Salisu and Corporal Abubakar Nuhu died while receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano. The other officer is Inspector Hashimu Garba.

SP Abdullahi Haruna, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident to The Punch, said the accident happened while the officers were returning to Kano from an official assignment.

He stated that the injured officers were receiving medical treatment in a Kano hospital. “The accident occurred at Karfi, a few kilometres to Kano and five of the officers died as a result of the accident while 11 others sustained injuries,” he said. The injured police personnel were taken to Murtala Mohammad Specialist Hospital.
