Electricity and water supply to the two buildings housing the Senate and the House of Representatives have been shut down by Nigerian workers. The media reports that other facilities in the National Assembly complex are also affected.
The development came after members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, shut down the National Assembly in compliance with the indefinite strike declared by organised labour. The entrance and exit gates of the assembly complex have also been blocked by two buses by PASAN.
The organised labour had insisted on embarking on an indefinite strike following the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage above N60,000. However, Labour is demanding N494,000. as a minimum wage from the government.
