Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has asserted that any group supporting him, before, during and after the election that ushered him in for his second tenure is doing so for the good of Imo people.
Uzodimma made this assertion while addressing the leadership of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council and National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Imo State who paid him courtesy visit at the Government House, Owerri.
He used the opportunity to congratulate leadership of the two media bodies for their emergence during their recent successful elections.
He noted that most members of the unions are indigenes of Imo State who know how bad the state was before his emergence for his first tenure, and for them to have supported his second term emergence, to continue his good works, means they have the interest of the state at heart.
The governor called for the sustenance of the cordial relationship between his government and the media, calling for the media to commend Government when it has done well, call its attention when amends need to be made, and criticize constructively where necessary. He called on the media to help strengthen the country’s democracy, by engaging in developmental journalism.
He used the opportunity to donate two brand new buses; one to the Correspondents’ Chapel and one to NAWOJ. In their separate remarks, the chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, Imo State, Mr Chinonso Alozie and Chairperson, NAWOJ, Imo State, Mrs Dora Nnaji expressed appreciation to the governor for his fatherly love and immense support to their chapel/association which has made them to continue to soar high among their peers.
They appreciated him for bringing back Chief Declan Emelumba as the state Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy. They used the opportunity to request for monthly stipend for their unions, in line with their requests during their earlier meetings with him.
