Suspected Killers Of Ebubeagu Operatives Arrested In Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Commander of the Ebubeagu Security Network, Mr. Friday Ujor has said that the operatives of the outfit have arrested some suspects who killed some of its members in the state recently.

NewsBits recalls that two officers of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit were shot dead by armed men in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State. It was learnt that the incident occurred on Friday night at the popular Ebebe Junction, a few metres away from the Police Headquarters and the Old Government House, Abakaliki.

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) SP Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the development. But briefing newsmen yesterday in Abakalaiki, Mr. Ujor said that the arrested suspects have made useful information and have been handed over to the police for further investigation, interrogation, and possible prosecution.

“They attacked my men on Friday night because there were rumours on Thursday about the attack. We had to lay more ambushes and we became more security conscious. Unfortunately, at Ebebe junction on Friday evening, they attacked our men, killed two of them but we can never relent no matter what they do”.

“Based on investigations, our operatives cordoned off the area and we were able, to arrest so many of them. Two have made useful confessional statements that they were responsible for the killing of one Ebubeagu member last month”.

“According to their statement, the confessed to have operated with AK-47 riffle. They also confessed of carrying out the recent attack at Ebebe junction on Friday. We have handed them over to the police for more investigation.”

Ujor, who also commented on the recent viral video by suspected unknown gunmen threatening to kill some political office holders in the state including some Council Chairmen, however, warned the Gunmen to desist from criminal tendencies as their threat would never  scare the Ebubeagu men from performing their official duty.

The Viral video emerged shortly after the killing of two Ebubeagu operatives by gunmen at Ebebe junction in Abakaliki metropolis last weekend.

A man in the viral video who wore mask was seen with two Ak-47 riffles threatening to kill some prominent Ebonyi government officials and more Ebubeagu operatives and listed the names of the government officials.

However, Commander Ujor said: “We are not afraid of the gunmen,” describing the murder of Ebubeagu operatives in the state as politically motivated.

He stated: “If we panic that means we are not Ebubeagu. We are not afraid of them. From that video, you will know that it is political. The people they mention their name are my people, Power they called is a Special Assistant to the Governor on Internal Security.”

“Ugo is EDC on internal security almost all of them are our men. The other people are Chairmen of local government under APC. To show you that opposition parties are the ones using them, the real unknown gunmen can’t go on political bases. We are out for them; we are not afraid, and we are not panicking.”

“The only thing we tell them is that anybody who wants to live peacefully in Ebonyi state, that person should remove anything that causes problems, moving around with guns or building political thugs hence Ebubeagu is concerned it will not work in Ebonyi.”

“I feel so bad because it is not easy to lose a trained officer, it is a very painful thing, but we can’t do anything it’s part of the job.”
