Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi (C) talks to the media at his house in Amatutu on February 25, 2023, before polls open during Nigeria’s presidential and general election.
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has said that there is no big man in the village where he is currently. Obi said this on Saturday in Agulu, during an interaction with journalists before the election.
He said, “I am in the village like every other one, there is no big man here, all of us are equal because God created everyone equally.” Obi shortly after proceeded to his polling unit where he cast his vote in the ongoing Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He voted at his Polling Unit, PU 019, Umudimakasi Square, Agulu, Anambra State. Addressing reporters after he voted, Obi said the process was “seamless”.
The LP flag bearer is one of the leading candidates in the race for Aso Rock. The former Anambra governor’s major contenders include Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The Labour Party presidential candidate was accompanied to the polling booth by his wife, Margaret. Meanwhile, electorates at the pulling unit have expressed satisfaction with officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission over the conduct of the election.
Mr Peter Aniedu, 81, who was the first person to vote at the unit, said, “I have voted. I am the first person to vote. This place is peaceful, and I am here to vote the person that I know will do the job. I don’t want anyone that will scatter the peace we are enjoying in this country. I don’t want someone who will encourage killing in the country. I am very happy with the conduct of both the INEC ad-hoc staff and the electorates in this unit.”
“The whole environment is very calm, quiet and peaceful. The machine was fast, there was no delay and all that. I just pray that there won’t be any issue of poor network so that everyone will vote. I know what I want, I want someone that will work for the country in ensuring that the country is working well.”
Also speaking another electorate, Onyekwelu Goodness, said, “Well to me the atmosphere is nice and calm, I came down from Onitsha to this place to cast my vote. Everything is going as we expected, I was not forced to cast a vote. I choose to vote the person I am voting because I have gone through his profile. I have seen that he is still the best candidate. No one forced me to vote who I voted for.”
According to Celestine Mmaduagwu, “The atmosphere is calm and cool, no one forced me to vote, I voted who I wanted to vote. As you can see the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful.”
