Political thugs allegedly hired by one of the political parties contesting the Governorship seat of Enugu State have attacked a meeting convened by members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The attack, which occurred at Isu Community in Isi-Uzo Local Government of the state whereas the members of the ruling party (PDP) gathered for a ward meeting, came on a day some motorcycles belonging to PDP supporters were set ablaze by the invading thugs during a ward meeting at Ward 3 Imufu Umuitodo community in Igbo-Eze North local government.

The Imufu invasion by the thugs, according to a trending video, occurred shortly after PDP House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Clifford Obe, concluded his campaign in the Ward and departed but his supporters left behind became victims of the attack as over five motorbikes were burnt. Reports from Isi-Uzo LGA said that hoodlums forced the PDP members in Isu community to scamper for safety but a Lexus jeep belonging to one of the Special Assistants to the Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Ikenne Ogbodo wasn’t spared by the thugs.

An eyewitness said the hoodlums attacked the ward meeting on Thursday afternoon at Isu community. The Labour Party governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, hails from Isi-Uzo local government area.

“We were at the meeting when thugs numbering over seven arrived at the venue and started destroying everything in the meeting venue,” one of the witnesses that gave his name as Mr. Goddy Agbo said.

“Everyone ran away, the SA to the Governor, Hon. Ikenna and others ran away leaving his car. The thugs began to destroy Hon. Ogbodo’s vehicle.”

In his reaction, a chieftain of the party from the area who does not want his name in print because the party is yet to react officially, said the attack is one of the numerous acts of Intimidation meted on the supporters of PDP in Isi-Uzo Local Government.

“We’ve been suffering this for the past three months, but we can’t be cowed into supporting a candidate who doesn’t fit into our definition of a credible candidate. The party responsible for this is the same people that has been crying foul and accusing people of plotting to truncate the electoral process.

“Its very obvious that they’re ready for violence and I hope the security agents will rise to the occasion and save us from these hoodlums because we can’t be intimidated to the point of not coming out to vote.”

Ten armed thugs suspected to have been imported for Saturday election had earlier been arrested at a hideout in the area.

Members of the Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party in the state had raised alarms over importation of political thugs to the area to cause mayhem during Saturday election but by press time no arrest has been made by security agencies.
