Tinubu Has Not Asked CBN Governor To Resign – Presidency

The presidency has dismissed as false, a viral claim that President Bola Tinubu asked Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Yemi Cardoso to resign. An online business publication alleged that the President sought Cardoso’s resignation due to his inability to revive the economy and stabilize the naira after a year in office.

The report also claimed that Cardoso had promised to strengthen the naira’s value to a range of N700 to N900 per dollar by May 2024, but failed to meet that target, reportedly leading to Tinubu’s disappointment. However, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on media and strategy, refuted these claims on his X (formerly Twitter) account, calling them a “bundle of lies.”

Onanuga stated, “It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.”
