Sinatu Ojikutu, a former deputy governor of Lagos between 1992 and 1993, says she has been humiliated since Bola Tinubu won the presidential election.
On March 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the presidential election after securing a total of 8,794,726 votes. Before the election, Ojikutu had vouched that she would renounce her citizenship if Tinubu becomes president.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday, the former deputy governor said she has now started the process of renouncing her citizenship and travelling out of the country. She said since the former Lagos governor won, she has been constantly subjected to humiliation and dishonour.
“I will not hold a Nigerian passport with Bola Tinubu as president. I am praying to God to give me the nation I can go to. I am not going to America or the United Kingdom. I want a simple place where I (can) stay and live for the rest of my life,” she said.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the second-highest figure with 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) was next with 6,101,533 votes. “I don’t know where I am going but I have already given it to the lawyers to please see where I can get the citizenship. I am working on it seriously before May 29.
“When he won, people called me and said he would not do anything bad. But I am endangered by the current situation. I have been ostracised and humiliated in places where I should be honoured because of his not being at peace with me.”
