The UN International Peace and Governance Council (UN-IPGC) official, Dr. Chimbo Obieze has lauded the recent appointment of Ambassador Dr. Jonathan Ojadah, as Acting President of UN-IPGC.
Dr Obieze, who is UN-IPGC Special Envoy on Sustainable Peace Education to Anambra State, made the remark while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on the significance of the appointment to Nigeria.
He said that Ojadah, who is first African and Nigerian to attain the position, had worked hard and made personal sacrifices for UN-IPGC programmes and objectives to be attained worldwide.
He explained that many years of dedication and sacrifices have prepared Ojadah for the new posting. According to him, “The appointment is putting a round peg in a round hole. It is given to someone who had internalized the ideas and ideals of UN-IPGC and vision of its founding fathers.
“I personally believe that Ojadah will perform creditably well and keep the flag of UN-IPGC flying high as we move forward. I call on all and sundry to give him maximum support for him to break more grounds and make the world a better place by ensuring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are achieved in record time”.
Obieze, who is a popular educational philanthropist, congratulated Ojadah, who before now oversees UN-IPGC African Affairs, for the new appointment. He said that Nigeria and Nigerians would gain a lot by tapping from his wealth of experience and international contacts to push the nation’s drive for its SDGs attainment faster.
“Nigeria has a lot to tap from his son’s appointment, especially how we can facilitate our attainment of the SDGs in record time and deal with poverty and illiteracy in all their ramifications,” he said.
In her speech, the Director of Policy and Implementation UN-IPGC Diplomatic Liaison Office Anambra State, Dr Nneka Mefoh said that Ojadah deserved the new appointment as a seasoned mentor of youths.
