The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has refuted circulating rumors of criminal activities, including alleged kidnappings and the killing of a student on its campuses.
This response follows a viral video online claiming that a 17-year-old student named Joy Eze was murdered and that several other crimes, such as kidnappings, were happening at the institution. In a statement released on Wednesday, the university’s acting Public Relations Officer, Dr. Okwun Omeaku, labeled the accusations as baseless.
“There is no record of a 17-year-old girl named Joy Eze being killed on any of our campuses, nor have there been any reported incidents of kidnappings involving our students,” Omeaku clarified. He stressed that no such criminal activity has occurred within the premises of the University of Nigeria.
Additionally, Omeaku said that the university administration regularly issues security warnings, advising students to limit unnecessary travel and exercise caution regarding their social interactions.
