By Tony Adibe

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, on Saturday, called for a meeting for the Convocation of the University for electing one convocation representative to the Governing Council.

Prof. Chigbu told journalists in Enugu that the meeting of the Convocation, which is for the sole aim of electing one convocation representative, was being called after consultation with the stakeholders of the university.

He said that it was the first time that such a convocation meeting would be held physically and virtually to ensure that the millions of eligible graduates of the institution wishing to attend the meeting and contest the position are given equal level playing field wherever they are globally.

“This is the first time in history that a meeting of the Convocation is being called virtually and physically. The institution administration is determined to make the election process open, free, fair and credible to all that would participate. This move is in line with the law establishing the university and the university administration returning to following due diligence, which is the hallmark of the university’s founding fathers,” he said.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, however, called on all members and honourary graduates who wish to attend the meeting and its election to pay for the update of their membership as part of the registration and accreditation process, which is strictly online.

He said that they have to pay a token of N200 to the university account following the laid down process. Chigbu said that the laid down process had been specified in an advertisement placed in national newspapers, major information/ billboards within the institution as well as www.unnconvocationelection.org.

“The meeting will be holding on Dec. 14, 2024, from 9:00a.m. at Ekpo Convocation Arena, UNN Nsukka and those that are unable to attend the meeting physically should join virtually by Zoom and vote online through www.unnconvocationelection.org,” he said.
