The Vice-Chancellor, of Ebonyi State University, Prof Chigozie Ogbu has expressed concern over the persistent vandalization, robbery, and theft of armoured cabals, laptops and other properties belonging to the institution by criminals.
Prof Ogbu said that the Criminals have vandalized and stollen all the armoured cabals used in the electricity connections in the different departments and units in the institution stating that the situation has thrown many departments and offices into darkness.
He made the disclosure while debunking a social media report that accused the school management of auctioning the institution properties that are still in good use. He maintained that the school cannot engage the services of armed security personnels as it is against the federal government policy to have armed security personnels within the school environment.
Prof Ogbu noted that despite engaging the services of a security outfit, the hoodlums invade the school compound, shot sporadically and carry out their criminal act and leave unchallenged. He noted that the blackout is currently affecting academic activities as students taking examination at the Information Communication Technology ICT center write their exams without fan.
Prof Ogbu while debunking the alleged sell of a Tata Tipper belonging to the university described the allegation as unfounded and mischievous adding that the tipper was reported missing by the driver handling it. He maintained that the matter has been reported to the police and suspected connected to the disappearance of the tipper has been arrested and the tipper recovered in a forest in Ikwo Local Government Area of the State.
He called on the general public to disregard the false information adding that the intention of those spreading the fake news is to spew out absolute and utter lies to blackmail the management. It would be recalled that one of the security agents in the school was shot dead 3 months ago by the hoodlums when he made attempt to confront them.
