We Will Develop Ibom Deep Seaport, Obi Tells Mammoth Crowd At Akwa Ibom Campaign Rally

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has promised that he would develop the ongoing Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom State if elected the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

Obi, who made the promise at the Unity Park Udo Udoma Avenue, in Uyo while addressing the mammoth crowd that graced his presidential campaign, said he does not make fake promises. He expressed regret that 2023 would be exactly 40 years that Senators visited the State over the Deep Seaport project, but much has not been done since then.

Obi further explained that he decided to bring a Helicopter to his campaign venue so that he would visit the Deep Seaport area after the event, because when he arrived the State, he was told that the Deep Seaport was an important project to the people.

His words: “Since 1983 senators came here and said there is going to be a deep Seaport. Next year will make it 40 years. The Federal government has not done anything in Akwa Ibom State. All they come here to do is to make fake promises.

“You cannot drive from here to Calabar, you cannot drive from here to Umuahia. I don’t make fake promises. What we want is to make Nigeria to work again. If you check the major parties’ presidential candidates that are contesting, Datti and I are the youngest…In terms of education and exposure Datti and I are the most qualified. So, me and my Vice-presidential candidate are prepared to work.

“Our first priority is to secure and unite Nigeria. Politicians are the ones creating division among Nigerians. North, South, East, and West are one. There will be peace, there will be no more police harassment of the citizens. We will make education work. We will sit down with lecturers and discuss. We will make this country work. It is time to take back your country,” Obi declared.

The National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure who also spoke at the rally appreciated the people for coming out en masse to support Peter Obi as their presidential candidate and advised them not to vote people who lacked the capacity and integrity to address the challenges of the country.

He said, “Today you have shown that Akwa Ibom State is for Labour Party. There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigeria is in disarray and is being mismanaged. There is no gainsaying the fact that the challenges we have in the country, ranging from insecurity, hunger, poverty, and the mismanagement of the economy is as a result of failed leadership over the years.”

Other state and national leaders and stakeholders of the party and Presidential Campaign Council who spoke at the campaign also urged the citizens and residents to go get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to enable them vote Obi/Datti come February 2023.
