Abia State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Amos Adelanwa has warned dealers and users of illicit drugs in the state that the agency will henceforth make Abia environment unconducive for them.
The Abia NDLEA Commander also warned hoteliers and other owners of some establishments, that permit the peddling of illicit drugs in their facilities to rest assured that nobody will be spared by the law, insisting that a continued clampdown.
The Commander of NDLEA in Abia State during a chat with journalists in Aba made a scriptural allusion warning drug dealers and their protectors that “A Pharaoh who does not know their Joseph” is now in charge and vowed that no sacred cow will be tolerated in the battle against illicit drugs.
Adelanwa said that the agency will continue to make Abia an unconducive environment for the illicit drug business to thrive and strongly warned hotel owners of an impending clampdown on any hotel found to be used by drug dealers and consumers. He appealed for the cooperation of communities in the fight against illicit drugs, stressing that the agency will go all out to make sure that the state is secured from illicit drug activities.
The Commander highlighted some of the major challenges confronting the smooth operation of the agency which include shortage of operational vehicles and the inaccessibility of some of the parts of the state. Adelanwa expressed his happiness with the successes so far recorded by the agency under his watch in the state since his assumption of office five months ago.
He appealed to residents of Abia to make themselves willing partners in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), which is a national policy. In the battle against drug abuse, he said that prioritizing sensitization and demand reduction is important. Adding that sensitization is more like empowering individuals, communities, and governments to address the root causes of substance misuse.
He said that these strategies offer a path toward a healthier, drug-free future for all and assured that volunteering credible information to the agency about persons and places where illicit drugs are sold or consumed will be treated with utmost confidentiality. Adelanwa emphasized that society will be safer if ridden of illicit drugs since all crimes are in one way or another linked with drugs.
