Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice Prof. Yemi Osinbajo have received the AstraZeneca coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine. Both men received the shots on Saturday, a day after the federal government launched the vaccination exercise in Nigeria.

The President and his vice took turns to take the shots at the new Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a ceremony witnessed essentially by members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

Buhari upon receiving the shot thanked the COVID-19 PTF, frontline health workers and all other groups, including donor agencies, that have worked to keep the number of fatalities arising from the global pandemic low in Nigeria.

He also encouraged every eligible Nigerian to present themselves for vaccination, in accordance with the order of priority already mapped out by the PTF.
