Nigeria’s much taunted Population and Housing Census 2023 commences from Wednesday 29th March to end on Sunday 2nd April 2023, an official said today.
National Population Commission (NPC) Chairman, Nasir Isa Kwarra, confirmed the dates this afternoon after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
“By March 29 to April 2, our staff will be in the field enumerating people,” said Kwarra. NPC is conducting a digital Census for the first time and has acquired the tools to seamlessly capture buildings, locations, and landscapes, he said.
Residents of the country, including foreigners, are to remain in places where they live and work to be counted. He said that the 2023 Census equally captures non-Nigerians so long as they are in the country at the time of the exercise.
The Buhari administration proposed N40 billion for the exercise in the 2023 Appropriation Act recently approved by the National Assembly.
