In a devastating attack on Saturday evening, gunmen killed seven community leaders in Umucheke Okwe autonomous community, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.

The victims included the President General of the community and six village heads. An indigene of the community, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the attack occurred during a meeting held at the President General’s shop in the community’s market.

The source revealed, “The gunmen opened fire upon arrival, killing all the community leaders and setting the place ablaze.”

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the purpose of the meeting is still unknown. In the aftermath, the community has been deserted as villagers fled their homes in fear.

At the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command has not issued an official statement about the incident. This attack follows a series of violent incidents in Imo State, including the killing of four policemen and a Point of Sale (POS) operator in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area on Monday.
