According to Anadolu agency, the U.S. President Donald Trump hinted on Friday that significant developments were on the horizon for the Middle East but refrained from offering specifics.
“We had an incompetent president who got us into a mess. The same thing in the Middle East. We’re going to have some good news in the Middle East,” Trump said, in a remark seemingly directed at his predecessor, Joe Biden.
His comments came a day after Hamas returned the remains of four Israeli hostages as part of an ongoing prisoner exchange under the ceasefire agreement. The remains were identified as those of Shiri Bibas, her two children, Kfir and Ariel, and captive Oded Lifshitz.
Trump also commented on the disturbing nature of recent events, saying, “What happened yesterday, the site of those babies was not acceptable to anybody. Nobody’s seen anything like it.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later claimed in a video statement that one of the returned bodies was not Bibas, as Hamas had stated. Israeli Army Radio reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) informed Israel of an additional body received from Hamas, allegedly belonging to Shiri Bibas.
As part of the ongoing negotiations, six more hostages are expected to be released on Saturday. The broader implications of Trump’s remarks remain unclear, but his statement has fueled speculation about potential diplomatic or military developments in the region.
