The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the payment of the N35,000 wage award arrears to its workers. Workers under the federal government payroll have been grumbling ever since the payment was paused.

However, they now have something to cheer about, as the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has given a green light. It made this known in a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, on Monday.

It stated that many federal government employees have confirmed receipt of the payment on Monday. According to the statement, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr Babatunde Ogunjimi, stressed that he never said the N35,000 wage award was excluded from the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget.

“The office said the Accountant General of the Federation didn’t brief the press on the wage award issue and assured that outstanding arrears would be paid as promised by the government”, the statement reads. The OAGF said the disbursement would be done in instalments of N35,000 for five months.
