The Commissioner of Police of the Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, convened a strategic conference with senior officers of the Command. This development came as the State prepares for a peaceful June 12 Democracy Day celebration in Enugu State.
In a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Daniel Ndukwe, Giwa, therefore, directed Area Commanders, PMF Squadrons’ and Tactical Squads’ Commanders, as well as Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), to ensure the effective deployment of personnel and the use of available operational and intelligence resources at their disposal to properly police their areas of responsibility.
Ndukwe said that during the conference, Giwa also conveyed outcomes from the recent national conference of the Inspector-General of Police, emphasising the need for professionalism by all personnel before, during, and after the Democracy Day celebration and warned that supervising officers would be held accountable for any lapses recorded under their watch.
Ndukwe said that the Commissioner further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations to coordinate the deployment of resources to areas prone to herders/farmers-related crimes.
“He ordered area commanders of such areas to take charge, mobilise their DPOs, and work with community leaders and local security to ensure sustained public safety,” the PPRO said. He explained that Giwa extended his goodwill to the government and people of Enugu State, and also wished them a peaceful and memorable Democracy Day celebration.
According to Ndukwe, CP Giwa equally reaffirmed that democracy remains the most reliable path to achieving the security, collective good, and will of the people, despite existing challenges.
The police Spokesman said that the Commissioner urged citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the police and to promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or call 08032003702 or 08086671202.
