Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State on Monday announced a one-month suspension without pay of 25 commissioners and 14 Senior Special Assistants for absenting from important state functions.
Others included in the suspension were 24 Special Assistants and 22 Permanent Secretaries. A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, quotes Governor Nwifuru as saying that the suspension of these officials takes immediate effect.
The governor further directed all affected officials not to sign any official document within the period of their suspension, and emphasised that affected Commissioners should hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective Ministries. According to the statement, the 25 commissioners who were affected by the suspension include:

- Dr. Ben. Uruchi Odo
- Dr. Donatus Ilang
- Dr. Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu
- Dr. Moses Ekuma Ikenna
- Chief Richard Idike
- Barr. Mrs. Felicia Nwankpuma
- Hon. Chinedu Nkah
