Operatives of the Delta State Police Command who were arrested in a viral video counting bundles of cash have been arrested. A video trended on Monday showing the officers inside a van as they counted bundles of money believed to have been extorted from commuters.

In an update provided on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the officers had been tracked and taken into custody. Edafe, in a post on X, stated that the Command wasted no time in summoning the personnel before the Commissioner of Police after the video came to its attention.

“They appeared before the CP today,” Edafe wrote. He explained that the two senior officers involved had already been issued queries, while the inspectors are facing detention ahead of formal disciplinary proceedings. The four personnel, two of them who are senior officers, have been queried while the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting an orderly room trial,” he said. Edafe said more punishments would follow after the orderly room trial.
